Top 5 Most Expensive Sneakers

There’s a mix of envy and confusion when looking at the most expensive sneakers in the world.

One part of you might think to yourself “I WANT THAT SHOE” and another part of you may think to yourself “WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND PAYS THAT MUCH FOR A PAIR OF SHOES”

Well, get ready to feel both of those emotions as in this blog post, we will be naming the top 5 most expensive sneakers that have ever been sold. So buckle in and hold your wallet tight!

5. 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat "Moon Shoe" ($437,500)

Starting off strong with a sale of $437,500, we have the infamous “Moon shoe”.

You may be thinking that this shoe looks like something you’d find in your grandpas basement under all of his antiques. Well… you’re not wrong. And if you did find this in your grandpa’s basement, I hope you didn’t throw them out!

This shoe was made by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, who used his wife’s waffle iron to create a new kind of running shoe with a waffle-patterned sole to help runners improve speed. Nike made 12 of the shoes for runners in the 1972 Olympic trials, and the design went on to help Nike become a global sneaker powerhouse. The pair being sold was the only one that had never been worn.

Knowing that… would you pay over 400k for them? I know I wouldn’t!!!

4. Nike Air Jordan 1, ($560,000)

Once again proving the design's historical value, these Nike Air Jordan 1s were sold by Sotheby's at auction in New York for over half a million dollars in 2020.

These weren’t just normal Jordan 1’s though… these were 1985 Jordan 1 Chicagos that were gameworn and signed by Michael Jordan himself. Yikes…. Talk about a unicorn.

3. Nike Air Jordan 1 High Sneakers ($615,000)

Yep! Another Jordan 1 Chicago. Except this one sold for $55,000 more than the previous.

Why?

The shoes, worn by the Chicago Bulls star in an exhibition game in 1985 and signed, were called the "rarest of the rare" when they were sold.

2. Michael Jordan's Nike Air Ships ($1,472,000)

I think we are starting to see a trend here. Anything Michael Jordan has wore and signed in a game is worth a house…

The Nike Airship game-worn by Michael Jordan in 1984, are the all-time most expensive worn sneakers sold at auction.

Collector Nick Fiorella paid $1,472,000 for them at Sotheby's Las Vegas on 24 October, 2021.

And number 1 is… Drum roll please!

1. Kanye West's Nike Air Yeezy, ($1,800,000)

These bad boys were worn by Kanye West during the 2008 Grammies and is one of the only pairs in existence. Does this justify a nearly 2 million dollar price tag? You tell me!
